GBP Post Views Are Now Visible, But What Do They Really Tell Businesses?

Google Business Profile now shows how many times each post has been viewed. Businesses can finally see how often their updates, offers, and events show up across Google Search and Maps.

The update was introduced through Google’s September 2026 Small Business Bulletin and covers posts published within a rolling 18-month period. For now, the data is available inside the Business Profile dashboard and is not available through the API.

The bigger question, though, is whether those views actually tell businesses anything useful about content performance.

What Caught My Attention

What caught my attention is not simply that another metric is available.

It is that I can now see a little more clearly what happens after a GBP post goes live.

Businesses publish service updates, offers, FAQs, announcements, and seasonal posts regularly. But different types of content may receive very different levels of attention.

GBP Post Views now make that difference easier to notice.

From a content perspective, that gives more context to what happens after something is published, rather than leaving the focus only on consistency and keeping the profile active.

Views Are Useful, But They Are Not the Full Story

A higher view count does not automatically mean a post performed better.

Views tell us that the content was seen. They do not tell us whether someone called the business, visited the website, booked a service, or eventually became a customer.

So, for me, post views are better seen as a signal of attention rather than a complete measure of performance.

The metric also has its limits when it comes to broader reporting. Google has not made post-view data available through the Business Profile API yet, which may make it harder for businesses and agencies managing multiple profiles to include the data in larger reporting systems.

Why This Update Still Matters

Even with those limitations, I think post views add more context to GBP content than businesses had before.

They provide another way to observe how individual posts are being surfaced, while also raising an important question about what that visibility actually leads to. That information can also help businesses make more informed decisions around Google Business Profile optimization and the types of content they publish.

For me, the real value of this update is not that GBP has one more metric.

It is that businesses now have one more clue about what happens after their content goes live.

And that makes the numbers worth paying attention to.
