Meta rolled out Muse this month (September 2026), first to the US on iOS, Android and muse.ai, with AI glasses support coming soon. It is not the typical chatbot but acts like claud co work that does tasks for you, sends emails, books travel, fills out forms, negotiates on your behalf, and keeps working, scheduling even after you close it. It also runs directly inside WhatsApp, so there is effectively no learning curve for the people Meta wants using it.

Here is the part that matters for agencies running Meta Ads. Meta says Muse conversation data is excluded from its ad systems entirely. Right now this is available to direct consumers with no API (Application Programming Interface), or sponsored content. The free tier covers the core features, with a subscription for the advanced features, which reads like Meta testing this as a paid product first.

The million dollar question? "your data stays out of ads" claims Meta which had a record of breaking privacy policies and fined for that.

Meta paid a GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) fine of 1.2 billion euros in 2023 over how it moved EU user data to the US.

Meta was hit with a 5 billion dollar FTC (Federal Trade Commission) penalty in 2019 tied to the Cambridge Analytica which was believed to have impacted Indian elections by then.

A policy written into a launch blog post today can change in a future terms of service update, and Meta has changed data-use terms before without much notice to end users. None of that means the Muse Secure VM (Virtual Machine) and Sentinel approval layer are fake protections, they are real architecture. It means the promise that this data will never touch advertising deserves to be checked again in six months, not taken at face value from a press release.

The part that caught my attention is the shopping angle. Muse as Meta claims can turn a saved Instagram recipe reel into a grocery list and complete the purchase through Link by Stripe. That is a direct line from a piece of organic content to a completed transaction, with no search box, no ad click and no landing page in between. Given a longer-term goal, it builds a personalized action plan and coordinates the time and resources needed on its own, and Meta says it remembers what matters to a person so it can make suggestions.

According to Meta each user's Muse runs in its own Muse Secure VM, a dedicated machine in the cloud that Meta says is contained so no other agent can reach it, with a separate Sentinel agent on the same machine that has to approve anything before it touches the internet.

Sensitive actions, sending an email, making a purchase are not recorded.
On credit cards, bank transfer and logins, Meta says Muse never sees passwords or payment methods directly. Purchases go through Link by Stripe.

Users pick which apps Muse can touch and how far, read-only on email versus send access, for instance, can pull that access back at any time, can opt out of having their chats used for AI training, and can tell Muse to forget specific things it has learned about them. The moment Meta says a word about opening this to businesses, or quietly updates what Muse data is used for, is the one to watch for.
