Steps on How to Optimize and Enhance Your Professional Page on LinkedIn

Your personal professional page on LinkedIn has a huge impact on the business page or the company page you own on LinkedIn. You might have already explored the new LinkedIn but still there are certain areas that you need to really concentrate and look into, for gaining an attractive look and feel to your professional page.

A Perfect LinkedIn Profile Page

Step 1: IMAGE

As LinkedIn is associated with your Profession, it is always recommended to have your professional image as your profile photo.

Step 2: HEADLINE

LinkedIn allows only 120 characters to describe your Title or Headline. So describe your profession short but descriptive. Think of the professionals related to your job and the connections they search for and include them as keywords on your headline.

Step 3: EXPERIENCE

Describe your work experience with your current and past positions including the keywords you used in the headline.

Step 4: SUMMARY

Your profile summary should not only describe your profession but should explain who you really are. With the summary you provide, people really get to know about you and the way you can help them by connecting.

Provide all your contact details such as EMAIL, INSTANT MESSAGING, SKYPE, TWITTER, PHONE NUMBER, ADDRESS, COMPANY URL, BLOG PAGES etc. Make sure that all the ULSs you have linked with the profile are correct as people identify you easily through your webpages.

Step 6: SKILLS AND EXPERTISE

The more you connect with people the more endorsements you get on LinkedIn. Always edit your endorsements if they are wrong and add the exact skills that you are specialized in.

LinkedIn today -  allows you to follow news channels that you are interested. You can choose few channels that match your profession, which displays in the panel as below.

The Groups and Companies  you join and follow respectively will be displayed on your profile page. So make sure that you join the right group which is associated with your interest and profession that you have already listed on your profile.

Step 9: NEW SECTIONS

You can also add the following to your profile, Add New Sections

  • Honors & Awards – Public recognition that relates your profession.
  • Test Scores – The marks you scored on any test related to your profession.
  • Courses – Courses that you learned outside of School and college.
  • Patents – highlight the patents that you developed.
  • Certifications – Professional certifications.
  • Volunteering & Causes – The supports you made for the nonprofit organizations or to any community.
  • Publications – Links of your works such as authored books, eBooks, news or any other works that you published.
  • Projects – Excellent industry related projects and URLs of them.
  • Organizations – Professional organizations that you belong to.
  • Languages – Languages that you are familiar with.

 

STEP 10: REQUEST RECOMMENDATIONS

Recommend others so that you will be recommended. The received recommendations will be displayed on your profile page.  If you receive atleast three recommendations, LinkedIn will label your profile as completed.

Initially implementing the above steps on your LinkedIn Page earns vibrant visibility of your profile page to everyone. The more you use your keywords to optimize your profile, the more chances you will be visible to your professional connections.
