I am annoyed and frustrated to see Google kill small businesses and startups either by acquiring them or killing them all together by offering the services free of cost.  “Free cheese is available only at mouse traps”  and we all are trapped in with no way out. When Pepsi and coke was re-introduced in India we had several options, Gold Spot, Torino, Thumbs up and 100’s of local brands to choose from. Pepsico and Coca-Cola corp. killed every one of them with their massive advertising strategy and offering 2 bottles of cola for as less as 5 Rupees. The small business either had to sell their business to either one of the corporate or shut down altogether which rendered 1000’s jobless. Now they comfortable sell it at INR 10-12 /bottle as there is no competition.

So is the case of analytics. We had several statistics providers before the launch of Google analytics, but they managed to kill most of them or buy them out. I was shocked to see the analytics this morning which displayed 70% of organic data (keywords) as “not provided”.  Out of 8212 organic visits 4487 visits are unaccounted for or “not provided”.

Google analytics "not provided"

On a particular day out of 380 visits 200 visits are not provided.  Google, Matt do you consider this as analytics? What can a webmaster, SEO analyze if 55% of visits are un-accounted?  Yes, we understand Firefox and some other browsers have a privacy policy and do not wish to share what the user is doing on their browsers. Because you (google) tried to invade the privacy and crossed the limits they had to take the precautions. Since you are guilty of killing other analytic providers it is your responsibility to find a solution to this issue.

Not provided

A bit of relief- Not everything is behind the curtain with “not provided”

Although one cannot see what users had searched for but can know which pages they have landed on by choosing the “landing page” as below. This will provide a fair idea of what was searched for and which pages receive a good amount of organic traffic.

I love to hear from you and share the percentage of “not provided” in your organic search results.
