Paid Search to Retain Top spot till 2014

In the last five years, Google’s presence in the Internet Ad market has grown almost 10%, from 34.9% in 2006 to 44.1% in 2010, chalking out the Lion's share in online Advertising. Google accounts for 85% of all searches as their three main competitors, Microsoft, Yahoo, and AOL, have slipped to a combined 13.8%, according to the new research findings by Advertising and communications experts, ZenithOptimedia. Google's acquisitions of DoubleClick and YouTube, have also contributed to its growth.

Google Growth

Facebook has increased its market share from 0.6% in 2006 to 3.1% in 2010 and has cut into the popularity of Microsoft and AOL. It is expected that Facebook will surpass Microsoft by the end of this 2011 while it has doubled AOL during 2010.

ZenithOptimedia forecasts 58% of new Ad Dollars to come from emerging markets such as China, Russia, and Indonesia for the 3 years between 2011 and 2014 while it is being lead by the US and Japan, now. It is said that the developing markets outside North America, Japan, and Western Europe, will contribute to the share of global Ad Market from 32.3% in 2011 to 35.9% in 2014.

Ad Market Growth

While 48% of all global Ad Expenditure growth is expected to come from 10 developing markets, Brazil, Russia, India, and China will share a combined total of 33%. Russia will bump off Italy to join China and Brazil, which are the two developing markets on the top ten list for total Ad spend by 2014.

By 2014, the total Ad spend for Internet Advertising in most of the leading countries is estimated to increase to 21.2%, while at present, only Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and the UK are the countries where Internet Advertising accounts for more than 25% of total spend. By 2014, Internet Advertising as a portion of total spend will top 30% in Canada, Norway, Sweden, and the UK, ZenithOptimedia predicts.
